I have a 1987 Skeeter Starfire 175, with a 1975 Johnson 85HP, I need to replace my throttle cable but I have no idea how to get the control box out, I don't have the white box that mounts on the outside, all that?s showing on my boat is the shift handle, no cables are showing, Help please.
Thanks
Joe

Re: Control box problem

You might have to use a screwdriver and get on your hands and knees, the cables are in there somewhere. The joys of boating.!;)

Re: Control box problem

You have what is called a concealed control. There are several varieties but they are very similar. You may find a plastic cover that runs the length of the handle. With great care, using a small screw driver, pry the cover out. There is a latching tab at the bottom of and part of the plastic cover which can be pried out. Once the cover is off remove the bolt which secures the handle. With the handle off the unit mount bolts are exposed. Remove the bolts and drop or withdraw the control from inside the gunnel. Now you have access to the cables.
