Gas odor

Purchased new 2008 Lowe Fm 165. Midway through the season I noticed a gas odor in the pole storage area (while setting in the garage). I checked the rest of the compartments with the same results. I am new to built in tanks, since my other two boats had the six gallon tanks. I already had the dealer check it out and was told everything checked out. I also contacted the manufacturer and was told the odor permiates from the plastic gas tank. Any other Lowe boat owners have this problem? Not happy about either reply. This odor can't be good on my poles and tackle. Any advise would be appreciated.

Re: Gas odor....DANGER WILL ROBINSON DANGER

The oder is as serious as an explosion.

Find the leak.

No ifs ands or buts

What I have seen....Fill hose failure due to bad clamp at tank.
Fill hose deterioration due to over stressed radius at tank connection, Vent hose failure at tank. Gage flange leak. Engine supply hose clamp failure,

Welded aluminum tank with pin hole at weld,

Take the time to find and fix the leak or it just might find you.

Re: Gas odor

The new plastic tanks do permeate some odor, but it is generally only noticeable in closed areas with no venting. Try leaving the lockers open for a few days. If the odor goes away, then its probably the plastic tank, but if the odor is still there, a leak is a real possibility.

Re: Gas odor

Thanks for the suggestions and related articles. It looks like a lot of boat have the same issue. I ruled out a leak when the dealer did a pressure test of the tank and told me it checked out. I will be going over my boat searching for any leaks or venting problems. Thanks again.
