305 mercruiser while driving over heats...

comesback down at idle and cools down..

replaced thermstat
impeller look good but still replaced
motor waterpump removed inspected spin freely and no wobble
open petcocks flush engine through waterpump inlets
removed risers cleaned up and replaced left side
installed temp gauge to show true temp

motor still overheats and comback at idle...question whats next

whats the possiblity that the water jackets are clogged...or that the exhaust manifolds are rusted and flaking...don't know what to do next...engine timing

help don't want to waste other summer working on this boat

Re: 898 mercruiser overheating

Next thing I would check are the exhaust elbows. They get rusted and clog up.

Are you getting water flow out the drive when on flusher?

You have covered most of the common stuff.

Power steering? Check the heat exchanger and thermostat housing for impeller parts from before when maybe an impeller came apart and the pieces were not found.
