Default Evinrude 6hp. Skeg question

I am building a Prop Guard. Similar to the mac round guard.

Problem is I noticed the oil drain plug is actually in the Skeg.

Any idea how far down the skeg actually becomes solid? I need to drill for the lower mounting bracket to secure the guard.

Logic suggests that the skeg is not hollow below the drain hole. If it were it would not be possible to completey drain the old oil or more importantly drain any water . Surely if you take the drain plug out you will be able to confirm that by probing with a piece of wire.

I had never regarded the drain hole as being in the skeg. But as this pictuture shows ..... its on the other side!

Makes since Vic. I'll give it 1/4" or so for safety. Don't want to drill to close to the end either.
