Hi all,
First I'd like to thank all those who've posted info on how to fix these older outboards. Never having worked on an outboard I was able to study this site's info posts and repair my grandfather's (I just inherited it) outboard. After taking the flywheel off and discovering the carnage that was beneath, I survived the coil/points/condenser replacement process only to find out (after talking with other boating enthusiasts) there's a little thing called an impeller somewhere in there that probably should be replaced before I hit the water.
Once I procure the proper part, I'll be diving into that job thanks to some awesome postings on how to do it from start to finish. I took some pictures of the top end right after the flywheel came off. <viewer discretion is advised>
Whatta mean...no spark???
1960...these coils quit already??
I wonder if these are still under warranty...
Now that's more like it! Spark is crisp once again.
Thanks again to this site and all who've posted helpful info. I hope to contribute someday myself.
Scott
