I have a Hewitt 3600 lb cantilever style lift. I?d like to add one of the motorized lift systems to it for raising and lowering the boat. There are a number of systems out there including one that has a friction wheel that rides against the current wheel we turn to raise and lower the boat. I?m wondering if I need to go with one of the kits specifically designed for this purpose vs. adapting a 12 volt winch used on trucks, atv?s etc. The 12 volt auto style winches seem pretty strong, and it would appear to be quite easy using one of those to replace my existing manual winch on the lift. Has anyone ever done something like this?
Also, if you have added one of the motorized systems to your existing lift, I'd be interested to hear how you like it.
