Need help w/ newer replacement 5.7 motor

Installed one of those michigan motors replacement motors 5.7's w/ bravo 2 drives last yr and the motor never has run very good. the shop that installed it was shoddy at best and now i need to check timing and change plugs because of a high speed miss and it bogs down midrange. the motor says indmar on it. any idea what timing should be and how do i check it? im mean if i get a timing light, do in need to plug anything up? not really mechanic but i can do simple stuff...michigan motors is no help after sale..dont buy from them. holly carb on this- any adjustments on this? thks for any help...

I guess that if you dont trust the shop to have done a good job on the rebuild it is up to you to check their work! how far you go is the question?
The basics, valve lash, compression, timing, every things sealed and not sucking air or blowing water.
