Hello:

I am in process of finishing the rebuild of the 160 HP inline six in my '69 Glastron V174 Crestflite. From reading the various posts on this forum, I need some clarification regarding whether or not there is a bolt required in the nose of the crankshaft to retain the harmonic balancer/pulley assembly.

The engine I am rebuilding is the original one installed by Glastron. The nose of the crankshaft is not drilled and tapped for a retaining bolt. The Mercruiser exploded part number drawings of the crankshaft assembly also does not show an attaching bolt.

Am I to assume that the balancer/pulley is retained strictly by the interference fit on the crank nose??? I did notice when I disassembled the engine that it was a very tight fit.

Thanks in advance for any info.
