Short in the Trim/Tilt Switches

I have a 1999 200HP Johnson. I live in central Florida and a couple of weeks ago we had 10 + days of heavy rain. This is when my problem started. My motor will trim up and down on it's own. I looked at the switch on the motor and at the helm. Both are sealed switches so I'm not sure how they would get wet. I know there is a short somewhere but I'm looking to see where the best place is to start my search?

disconnect the big red harness plug to eliminate the binacle control part of the circuit. Does it still act up? if yes..

problem is under the hood ,

or where the t/t wiring loom goes over the transom to the t/t itself,
the wires could be chafed inside the protective sleeve.
Thats where I'd start looking.

You should have bullet connectors in the harness on the switch at the engine about 6 inches from the switch. That would be the quickest one to eliminate as the possible problem.

Thanks for the info. I played around with it last night and couldn't duplicate the problem. It seems like it only happens when it gets wet. The wiring from the switch at the engine is routed under the powerhead so it's hard to see the condition. I'll try and trace the wires from the harness back towrds the TnT pump to see if any chaffing is visible.

The toggle switches on the throttle handle can get water in them, thus completing the circuit.
