270/ aq125b repower options

I was wondering what options to repower I would have with this drive set up? Are there any compatible 6's or 8's that would bolt up to the transom? I would use thru hull so no y pipe needed. I know the engine mounts wont be the same but there is ahuge engine compartment and I could lay new stringers.

You can use any engine you want, but the engine bellhousing from your 125 will not fit a V6 or V8 engine. You would also need a different gear ratio in the drive.

don, I have read in other posts that the 270 280 and 290 are interchange able also in ads on ebay they have lowers that say they work with the 270 275 280 or 270 280 and 290 drives that are 1.6. In another thread I read some are interchangable and some aren't can you clairify what i can and cannot use? Also, what is the gear ratio for my drive now or how do i find out? I cannot find the serial on the drive.

is 250 or so hp going to be a problem with the 270?
