I have a 1984 baja sunsport 240hp mercruiser alpha lower unit. The past 2 times i have taken the boat out it will not shift back into neutral or reverse it only shifts into drive and stays there. when i take it out of the water it will shift fine. I dont know what is going on. I have not tested to see if it will shif out of the water with the motor running.
any help would be nice.
thanks

Probably a problem with the lower shift cables adjustment. Has it been worked on since the shifting worked? Or did this just suddenly start happening?

I think it is more then a ajustment that is needed but i might be wrong. When the shifter gos into drive if physically gets stuck i cant move it. But pull it out off the water and it frees up.
