I got to disassembling my lower unit today in an effort to reseal my '85 Series 400 sterndrive. I thought I'd see what you guys thought about the condition of my clutch dogs

I haven't worked on a sterndrive before but from my mechanical background I would rate these a 4/5: throw em back in

What do you guys think? Am I good for another 25 years are am I an idiot for thinking they're fine and I deserve to end up stranded in Lake Superior with a gale quickly approaching?

I owned a 88 Bayliner Capri, 3.0/Cobra. and after dealing with the thud of jumping worn, clutch dogs, untill i coould afford to replace them, i.e, not going over 1500 rpm. Since you have it apart already, i would replace them.

I disagree, to a point. All of those surfaces look great. Hard to tell with pictures but there looks like very very minimal wear. If they aren't skipping, keep using them. If you have the cash to spend, then yes replace. The nice thing is you've pulled out the prop shaft once already so if you do run into problems it'll be a piece of cake the second time around if you ever run in to problems.
