Yamaha lower unit seals

Hello:
I have a 1996 Yamaha Pro V 115 (P115TLRU). Had some fishing line chew up the seal behind the prop. :(The manual shows 2 seals in tandem. My question is: Can the seals be replaced WITHOUT removing the bearing carrier? The manual states removing the carrier but it's detailing overhauling the lower unit. :confused:I just want to replace the seals with minimum intrusion.
Appreciate some experienced input.

Well I managed to remove the seals without removing the bearing carrier. Small punch in the seal with a sharp awl, insert a #6 pan head sheet metal screw just enough to bite then modified an adapter for my slide hammer to pull them out. There is sufficient clearance behind the second seal to perform this without damaging the bearing.
