motor is a 1966 500. Last weekend while working on it, I noticed that it was not peeing and the telltale hose was pretty hot, as was the motor. No alarm ever went off. How can I test it?

That's why it was originally called a "tell tale".

Andy, You can install a water pressure gauge on the dashboard. On those old inline motors, the water pressure was neve more than 15PSI, so choose one with a 0-15PSI scale. You will likely need to tee it into the telltale hose.

jmg, Telltale has pressure, which it does more than dribble out at cruising speed. The block has pressure too, and if you screw a brass tee into the hole the telltale elbow was in the presure gauge will get a reading.
