mercury 500 50hp 1970 wiring problem?

i have a 50hp mercury with thunderbolt ignition, it is a manual start model i need to know about the condensor? thats sits on the outside of the engine just under the flywheel, the cable is brown with one end to ground, ? is where does the other end go to,the cable is about 10" long, eng serial no 3010428 can anyone help
