Hello,
I am new to the forum and a first time boat owner. I aquired an 83 Sea Ray Seville project boat and have a few questions for the more experianced owners. The boat originally had the V6 3.8 with what I believe is the Stringer 800 OMC outdrive. The boat was not winterized at one point damaging the engine and the outdrive. There is a small crack in the outdrive but I have been told it can be fixed. However the engine was toast and did not even come with the boat. I have an opportunity to get a 4.3 complete vortec motor from a 96 blazer. I was told by a local boat shop this would work fine, however i am unsure about the age difference and such things as wiring, ECU control, and marine specific parts. I do have the marine specific starter and Alt. but was told since it was fuel injected the other parts would not be as big of a deal, I do know of course I need new manifolds. Any advise or experiance would be appreciated.

Thanks

Re: 3.8 swap to newer 4.3 Vortec

can't do it for several reasons, but main thing about OMC stringer drives:
A coupler to connect a Chev V6 or V8 engine made after 1987 to the OMC 400, 800 or electric shift drive systems made from 1964 to 1985 does not exist.
Your drive needs a pre-1987 engine for the crankshaft flange to match the coupler.
Exception for the V8 guys is some of the new chevy crate motors made in Mexico - they use the old style crankshaft design

did they happen to say when my lawnmower would be ready?

Wooow.. Umm very glad you responded! Sucks my plans have been smashed 400 bucks is a good deal for a full motor but not if it will not work. Guess it is back to the research now searching for pre 1987 3.8 or 4.3 I guess. Thanks again!

Do you have a lot of money invested in the boat? How is the trailer? May be easier for you to pick up a boat that needs a motor that isn't an OMC stringer.
