Hi this is Wouter from Amsterdam Holland,

I recently bought a mercury outboard engine and it immediately gave some cooling problems. I deconstructed the lower part of the machine and found a melted impeller. I also tried to blow air through the long cooling tube to check if it wasn't blocked, but the air didn't come out so I think it is blocked. I hope you can advise me on these two issues:

1. Can anyone tell me exactly what year and type my engine is? It tried at least 5 or 6 serienumber-sites but all sites said the number was wrong. We're not sure if it's really from 1982. It's a Belgian produced engine with the number 9274004. This way I can buy a new waterpump and buy a workshop manual (or download the right one if possible).
2. Can anyone tell me how to clean the cooling tube? Do I have to detach the whole engine or is there a simpler way?

Thanks in advance! We had a lovely time in the canals peddling but it's better and safer with a working engine :)

Bye, Wouter

ps If photo is needed I can upload one.
