Well, not that I intended to but I picked up an AristoCraft 8teen on the side of the road that followed me home. It is a excellent looking little boat and I was thrilled to find this group. However, after a week of equity I think I may to give up already. It appears to me that the outdrive is locked up, the engine is locked up, and it's all just generally gummed up. It hadn't ran in at least 10 years and I think it is just a bit over my head. Is there a reasonably cheap engine/outdrive combo I can swap in to save this thing? I don't think rebuilding any of the existing is going to be an option for me.

I don't know about changing the combo. Ours was pretty common and I would think you could pick up a used one fairly affordably from one of the salvage dealers.
It's a 120 Merc. I'm currently taking some time off from it . Things are so gummed up I can't even get the outdrive off. If I could get there I could at least determine if it is drive and engine. I'm sure the drive is shot as I found it with no oil whatsoever and the prop is just spinning regardless of engagement. Oh well, I'll keep plugging along. Once I get enough apart I will feel a lot better about knowing what I need to try and find and how much.
