Does anyone know what specific gaskets are different from regular auto ones and in what way. 5.0L chev for example.

From these, which ones are not needed in a closed marine cooling system?

Re: Marine Gaskets

its really just the head gasket... if you have closed cooling you can use regular gaskets.
Just use quality ones like felpro

Just the head gasket? Now I've heard the gasket has SS cylinder rings. But is this right as I don't see the benefit as no water contacts those rings.
Maybe around the water passages is supposed to be SS?
Then again if it is just gasket material and no SS then whats wrong with that?
What about the water pump gaskets where it mounts to the block?

I just don't see the logic.

Re: Marine Gaskets

The marine headgaskets are a composite but still have a stainless fire ring. Regular head gaskets have a plain steel support in them and will eventually rust out causing a leak or blowing out the gaskets. You want the composites anyway. They are only .028 thick compared to .039-.041 for the cheapies. Little better quench and compression.

Edit: Just noticed the closed cooling. Use what you want. The composite gasket is still the way to go though.
