clicking sound

hi,
i have a 1999 tige 2100v inboard v-drive ski boat. it has a mercruiser 315hp engine. the problem i have is sometimes when i go to start it, i hear a clicking sound when i turn the key. if i shake the gear shift, it will start fine.
sometimes i have this problem sometimes i don't. any help you could give me would be helpful. i have replaced the ignition.

clicking before starting could be a low battery or fuel pump issue. Clicking while starting could be the starter. Does it go away after it has started? Sometimes the bindex(sp) of the starter can get hung up internally causing grinding? Could be the shift interrupt switch if the gear shifter is moved to correct.

thanks for the help. i think you are right. i have a bad neutral saftey switch. my boat is a morse mv-2. it looks like with this control i have to replace the whole thing. is this pretty simple? or should i have the shop do it?
