I am new to the forum and I have questions that hopefully you guys can help me with. I have a Javelin Fish & Ski with a '99 model 115hp Evinrude FICHT. When I throttle up fast I get a check engine alarm that is associated with Throttle Position Sensor TPS (I don't remember the code # but it is something like TPS out of range). I was told by a boat mechanic that the throttle cable is too tight. Also the engine idles to fast, (~1500 rpm). I am wandering could the two problems be related, and if so how do I adjust the throttle cable so that the boat will idle at the proper rpm and what can I do to be able to throttle up fast without the TPS alarm? I appreciate any help you can give but, pictures would be real helpful.
I believe that the TPS alarm and the throttle cable are related. Also, I think that the FICHT engine throttle adjustment will be the same as any of the later model (1980 to now) Evinrude. If anyone has information on how to adjust the idle at the engine I would appreciate the help. I am not sure if the throttle cable is preventing the engine from returning to idle or not. Perhaps I need to adjust the idle on the engine and the throttle cable or maybe one or the other.
Thanks in Advance,
Spleeb
I noticed that the throttle arm shaft was not supported on the lower end of the engine (where the throttle cable attaches) and when I throttled up the shaft would swing about 1/2". I took the lower engine cowling off and noticed there was a hole where the throttle arm shaft was supposed to fit. Inserted the shaft and engine has peformed very well.
