Idle Overheating

Had our 200 select out all weekend, and it ran great except when my wife was waiting for me to get the truck and back down the ramp. She said that both days, the over heating alarm would go off when she was idling for about 5 minutes. I noticed it out on the water one time, but as soon as I would put in in gear and take off slow temp would drop drastically. We have a 2004 200 Select with 5.0 MPI.

Has anyone seen anything like this. Kinda new to boats but I am pretty mechanical.

Re: Idle Overheating

Other than a 5.0 MPI, what is it? Mercruiser, Volvo ? What outdrive, be specific. Since neither of the manufacturers go by year, what's the model number and/or serial number. The year of the engine and drive will probably be different than that of the boat.

Sorry, kinda new at this. It is a Mercruiser with alpha 1 sterndrive. I will have to get back with you on the serial #'s.
