Question Help please, mercury 800 steering!

Hi all!

After one month of owning my boat i've had the bad news that the engine is knackered!!

I've tried taking it off tonight but got all bar the steering off.

What i'm trying to find out is how to get the steering tube out of the outboard bracket.

I can undo the bolt on the rod side, that comes undone easy, i can move both nuts on the other side too. Now does the steering screw out of the outboard bracket or is mine seized and just needs a slight 'tap'!

Hopefully getting a 50hp fitted 2moro so need it off asap!!

Thanks in advance!

Mike

The steering cable end should slide out of the tilt tube. They frequently corrode. Put a pipe wrench on the cable end with the hole in it and rock the cable. Spray with good penetrating oil. if you can rock it, it will eventually loosen up. keep spraying and rocking You can try some heat, but be careful of fire.
