could anyone tell me why my coil would be overheating? the motor is a 1989 mercruiser 4.3 v6. thunderbolt 4 ignition. the alt fried last weekend while we were on the lake. the big red pos wire melted off the alt! now there is no spark! bought a new coil because when we got it home and were trying to start her the coil was piping HOT! after we put the new one on and tried it a few times it to became really hot. i touched the coil wire that goes to the distributor and turned her over while holding a ground, and it only shocked me a little right at first. than nothing. what would be causing this? thanks for any help you might have
