Default Correct prop on used boat?

Hello

I have a 99 182 Crownline with a 190 hp 4.3 Merc Alpha one outdrive. The boat came to me with an aluminum 3 blade 14 inch 23 pitch prop which I promptly gouged out on my maiden voyage. The prop has a bronze splined insert, if that helps with the style. I have been reading up on props a bit, and a 23 pitch on a V6 might not be the correct prop for this boat? I find WOT to be about 5200 RPM, but can't really provide a top speed as I did not run it that high prior to my problems. I need a new prop (or at least a couple of used ones at this rate) but don't want to replace it with the same if it was not correct to begin with. I have my transom ID, etc if it might help.

Thanks for any advice you can give.

is that your wide open throttle rpms with boat in water and in forward. or did u rev it out of water which im thinking, your wide open throttle rpm should be 4400-4800 this is running in the water not on hose. if 5200 is what your getting then u need a 25 at least which is highly unlikely

Hi there

That was in the water, but to be honest the TAC did not want to stay there long, it seemed to be most at home around 4800 RPM, it could rev over 5000 but I don't think I would want to hold it there for too long.

Thanks

i swear by 4 blade props since i got one. id put an aggesive 22p 4 on it. better hole shots, mid range speed, slower plane speeds, better gas bill, and holds good in rougher waters.
