Mercury Trim Problem

I have a '96 Mercury Black Max 150... I've just had to replace deep cycle batteries, and during the last fishing trip, the trim would barely lift the outboard. I assumed it was battery-related, but now the trim will not work at all. When I press the switch, the switch just makes a clicking noise on the back of the motor (2 white electrical switch boxes - when I press the trim switch, I can hear and feel the clicking coming from the top switch. All trim switches on the boat (front, rear on motor, and shift) result in the same clicking noise.

Is this an electrical problem which can be repaired with a new switch, or do I have another issue?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Mercury Trim Problem

That engine should have a two wire PTT motor. +12VDC is applied on the motor's blue wire to trim up. The green wire is grounded. +12VDC is applied on the green wire to trim down, and the blue wire is grounded. Two relays make this happen. You need to check to see if the trim motor gets any power when the switch is activated, and troubleshoot the wiring. If the motor gets voltage, it is likely bad. If not, the relays are likely bad.
