1986 125HP Prestolite CDI hook up!

1986, 125HP, Prestolite ignition, new CDI unit and i cant remember which wires go to which coil there is a red and an orange that come out of each CDI unit the engin is a 4 cylinder and im lost. No matter which way i hook it up all i get is a back fire need help.

Depends on which cd unit you're replacing, there are two, "A" or "B".

If replacing "A" which feeds ignition coils for 1st and 2nd cylinders, orange wire goes to #1 coil, red goes to #2 coil.

If replacing "B" which feeds ignition coils for 3rd and 4th cylinders, orange wire goes to #3 coil, red goes to #4 coil.

Cylinders/coils are counted 1 - 4 starting from top to bottom.

I replaced my bad CD unit with a replacement from CDI a while ago. I'm pretty sure it had a complete wiring diagram with it.

Let us know. There are a bunch of other wires that also have to be properly hooked up in order for it to fire the coils correctly.
