Last fall when I was fogging my cylinders, I yanked the plug wire from the coil, I spun it back on, and thought I was good...This spring, before my first outing, I ran my motor with a set of ears....It ran rough...I took it out to the pier, and had no power, just idle...

I did pull the coil to check it out, but I might have a wire mis terminated.

does anyone have a diagram of the coil termination? (top cylinder) or a discription. Thank You!

"another one learned the hard way, write down my termination layout even it is just 2 wires"

I just need to know where the 2 wires that are on the top coil go. one is grounded to the frame, I think I put the red lead wire in the wrong place.

If you are talking about an orange wire that is about 14 gauge, its the hot lead from the power pack to the coil. If you've pulled it out of the coil, you will need to replace the coil.

If you simply removed it from the powerpack and left the rest alone, you should be able to just put it back where it was. The same is true if you inadvertantly broke the wire at that end - just put a new terminal on it, remove the one that was there and install the repaired wire. Be aware, however, that the ring terminals used for these wires are not standard ring terminals. You will have to go to an OMC/BRP deal to get he right ones - the neck on a standard electrical terminal is too short and will not fit the powerpack properly.

I don't have a manual for a 1975 Johnson 70hp motor, but I'd take a guess that the post on the powerpack that you are looking for is the #1 post. It is located on the top, left side of the powerpack. Do double check this is your manual, though.

BTW, the recessed post on the coil for the spark plug wire is threaded. If you pulled the wire out of the socket with the post in it, you need to trim a little bit off of the end of the wire (no more than the depth of the socket) and then screw the wire back in. If you just try to shove it into the socket, it won't stay in place. I like to run a little bead of high temp silicon around the wire when I am done. I think doing that keeps moisture out and provides a little more resistance against the wire being pulled out.
