I need to replace the jackplate on my bass boat because the old one i have now is about to break, . . it is a 6 inch setback, i would like to have more like 8 inches or even 10, . . would more setback put more stress on the transom?

If the transom is in good shape it should not be a problem.
You have to think about your control cable length though.
If you go with more set back you may need longer cables.

the transom is in "ok" shape, but i didint think about the cables, i have plenty of control cable but the steering cables are not goin to be long enough.
