Hi I was trying to help out a friend to change oil on crank case lower unit,
because they didn't winterize it properly last year but I notice that vent plug
It has been damaged from trying to remove it...
The opening in the flat head screw where the screwdriver is suppose to fit it is not strait anymore but chewed away from using I guess to small of a flat screwdriver...
How can I get to unscrew the plug without damaging the threads??
Ps I think I have the right year this is the serial number for the engine
Merc 200 2435874
Thank you in advance

Use an impact screwdriver to remove it, Nicola. Use a new one when you are done.

These can be a pain, particularly if a 300 gorilla tighten the screw!

Impact screwdriver is great suggestion, try PB blaster, and get a screwdriver blade the full width of the screw head. tap, soak, tap, soak many many times, drilling this out will not be a lot a fun and a last resort for me. You might try a dremel tool with a cutoff wheel to cut a new screw slot too, watch the housing though. A LITTLE heat from a propane torch might help as ss screw and alum with expand differently (I would take the top screw out to vent the housing first).

Good luck!
