I have an 87 sea ray w/ mercruiser 3.0 130hp motor. It starts just fine and idles great. I can put it into gear and at low rpm's it's fine. As I slowly give it throttle and reach about 2,000rpm's it starts to bog out. If I floor it, it picks back up and runs and the same if I bring it back to neutral. Any Ideas...? I had the carb rebuilt last year, and have changed the fuel filter in the fuel line.

Pull the plugs - what do they look like? If they're black, it's running rich. White, it's running lean. Carmel/brown, mix is OK.

Could be a fuel pump (broken diaphragm), plugged fuel tank pickup...

Have you checked timing and proper advance function? I think all boats have is mechanical. You should see it advance when the RPMs pick up. I can't remember when it's supposed to kick in.

I did pull the plugs and they were black so I wire brushed them and put them back in. I removed the ball and spring from the fuel line coming out of the tank per a mech. at a marina to see if that helped. Which it didn't.

Cleaning them and putting them back in doesn't fix it, though. They should always be brown.

Sounds like a fuel delivery/timing problem. Time to start diagnosing. Start with the carburetor - when was the last tuneup/rebuild? Last time the timing was checked and set? Last time the fuel pump output was measured (psi)? Coil checked? Plug wires replaced? Points replaced/dwell set?

Carb was rebuilt last year along with a new Electronic ignition, plugs, wires. I have not checked timing, and whats the best way to check fuel pump output.?

Check the distributor shaft for excess side to side movement.

I took it out on the water today and it ran like crap. When I give it throttle it just bogs out. I can pump the throttle and it will run better and stay running. I checked the plugs and they are bone dry and clean. Did someone say there was a fuel filter in the fuel pump..??
