Default 1986 Evinrude 15 hp bypass cover dirty
1986 Evinrude 15 hp E15RLCDE

I am converting my motor to electric start and bought a used bypass cover (starter bracket) off ebay. The side that faces the interior of the motor is charred black.

1. Do I need to clean this up or maybe it doesn't matter?
2. If cleaning is needed, what to clean with? Acetone?
