I have a 2001 Merc 225 EFI mounted on a 95 Procraft Superpro 200.

I have had the boat and motor for about a month and need to remove the cowl cover.

I have only one cowl latch release point at the front of the motor.

How do you remove the cowl? I finally was able to get the front released, but cannot get the rear to release. Is there a trick that I am missing?

I am new to the bassboat arena and very new to the Merc 225.

Any help on this will be greatly appreciated.

Re: Cowl Removal ????s

I have a smaller 40 HP merc.....cant see how the mechanism could be that different. At the base of the top cowl at the back I have a lever that releases the back and then I tilt it forward almost 90 degrees so I can pull the front free off of the springy metal hinge.

Maybe if you post a pic someone without that motor can help.

Martian.
PS....first thing I did is purchase a Mercury shop manual it cost me $90 Canadian but it paid for itself in the first year. There are some things in the owners manual that are not in the Shop manual (basic stuff) but you may want to get it too. You will save money (or your engine)
