twin mercruisers. new tachometer on port engine. how to calibrate to tach on starboard engine. new tach reads 600 rpm below stbd. have adjusted using set screw in hole on the back of tach but still reads low. using synchronizer to calibrate. any help appreciated.

Is it set for the correct number of cylinders? I take it you have both tachs hooked to the same engine for calibration? If you are paralleling the two tachs you have a situation where the coupling capacitors may upset the input to the tach and therefore it affects calibration. If you know what the engine is idling at, disconnect the tach input and then calibrate the new tach. When done, hook them to the applicable engines. Long shot, but those are my guesses.
