motor went bad (around 1980, 235 h.p. Johnson) so i am finishing installing a replacement (around 1979, 115 h.p. Johnson). everything runs great except i cant get tach to work. i used the forward/rev throotle contol from the original motor (wire harness was the same) maybe thats the problem? the tach does not show any read (though it will adjust when switch is flipped). tested with m-meter and i have 12 volts at red to black on tach and 12 volts on red to grey (is this supposed to read 12 volts?). On back it shows four settings #1-#4. 1 = 2 cyl. 2 = 4 cyl. 3 = 6 cyl. 4 = 12 pole. i cycled through each to get no readings. am going to run rectifier test will post results. model # for motor is 115EL76D. model # for original motor is J235TLCTD if its helps. Any ideas on what is wrong? Thanks in advance for any help.
