Strange "Milk" like substance in my lower unit .....

Hi All -

I just pulled my Merc 25 2 Stroke (25 EL) out from storage (along with the boat) and noticed a pool of oil underneath the lower drain screw.

Saw more oil underneath once I put her in my gargae.

Went to pull the screw and clearly ....
a) not as much came out as when I replaced oil last fall.
b) Two (2) types of liquids came out: one obviously oil (90wt gear oil) and the other almost as white as milk. The two did not mix.

If it were water - wouldn't it be well, watery (and probably not mixed) ?

I took her for one last quick trip last year on Lake Erie (freshwater) and winterized it by pumping the water out.

It was stored in a heated storage unit that presumably never went below freezing.

So the question is ---

What is this stuff? Water? (why white?) Other?

And any advice on where first to look to repair. I'm kind of handy, but am running out of time for a hopeful trip for Memorial Day (with the boat, of course).

Thanks all,

George

Water.

In storage most of the oil water mix probably seperated most is the key word.

So other than bad "O" rings - do I have a problem? (thus letting oil drip out).

How did the water get in? (is there a seal I should examine & / or replace)??

Change the lower unit oil and run it. Keep checking it through the season.

The 2 strokes exhaust oil and water mixed and it could just be a collection that ran down while in storage. I would just keep an eye on it and check it.

Go boating ;) It's not time to replace a seal unless it's contaminated after the first few runs.
