Trying to find out about a tool needed to remove the bushing that is over the oring that seals the shift rod. The bushing has to be removed to change out that oring. The manual says there is a tappered punch to do this. Any one have a picture of this tool? My shop has several dozen tappered punches but a regular tapered punch wont work. Thanks

About 12" long - the small end is the same size as the shift rod.

Thank You for the quick answer. Does any one know where this tool can be bought? Or even rented? Thanks

Build it yourself. Buy a piece of 5/16" steel rod and grind the end down to 1/4". I find it best to grind the shoulder to a taper since the lower unit housing castings are often inconsistent. Here is a photo of the rod I use. As you can see I've had to grind it a few times to fit different housings.

I make those tools. As has been discovered by others, it has to be the right size to go through the gearcase. Too big and you risk breaking the case. Send me a PM if you want to know more.
