I have a 1981 OMC 800 Sterndrive. I had to cut the old shift cable out and get a new one as part of a rebuild. Taking out the cut cable was easy. Getting it back in is more involved. I have looked at the manual and it cautions me from disassembling this housing and to seek a qualified repairman to do this.
1. How do I get the cables with the retainers back in the housing? It looks like I can pull a pin or two, but don't want to damage it.
2. Should I have someone do this?
