I don't know if this is the right spot for this, but thought i'd give it a try. I have an bayliner w/force 125 and just installed new steering gear and cable, when i test drove boat and let go of steering wheel it would automatically spin all the way left, how do I center this, or align this so it goes straight and steeing wheel doesn't spin....thanks

The steering fin/exhaust snout might need to be moved. If the boat turns to the left, turn the fin to the left.
The steering cable should have a tension screw to stop it from free wheeling.
This might help.Jerry

If the motor pusll to the left that hard then I would think you need to trim up.
When my motor is all the way down, it does pull hard on the hole shot, I trim up till the steering floats. By then Im on plane.
At that point, if the water is calm. You could literally take your hands off the wheel. It should go straight and not pull want to turn at all.

When it "porpoises" its trimmed too high.

What you describe may have to do with the exhaust snout but if all you did was change the steering cable then Id think this isnt the problem.

Maybe your old cable was so stiff that it actually had enough friction to make you think all was ok. Now that you have a new cable on it, its moves so easily that your steering will behave this way.
Id really think its a trim related problem. If you dont have power trim, move your pin UP one notch and see if it improves.

You should have made sure the cable was set in the middle of its movement before tightening that gimble/gear/shaft piece tight.
Then maybe move the gear a tooth or two left or right so that when you install the wheel its on there 'centered'.

Tim.

Rack and pinion doesn't need any centering for the motor, just to index the steering wheel so it's straight. J
