Re: 1995 mercruiser 5.7l Roller or not????

If I remember correctly from my "hot rod years" GM started the roller V-8's in 1990. I am fairly certain all v-8's from then on had the roller blocks. This, however did not mean it had the roller valve train though. For instance, I had gotten a 350 from a wrecked Caprice. It had the 350 with roller block, but it was a standard valve train in it. However, since it was a roller block, all I had to do was put the extra stuff in there.

I would assume the same is true of the marine / heavy duty blocks as well.

However, just cause the boat was new in 1995 doesn't mean the engine block was made that same year.

The S/N as Don mentioned is the key. Either that or pull off the front cover or the intake manifold and check the machine work done on the block.
