I have done my searches and used the prop selector tool. Before I buy a new prop I thought I would run it by here first.

Currently @ WOT
RPM 4450
Mercruiser 3.0L
2008 Discovery 195
21" prop 3 blade aluminum

Need something better for skiing/wakeboarding etc.

Would an 18" 4 blade aluminum work or would it have too high of RPM?

Doing my own calcs
drop of 3" = +600 RPM
change from 3 to 4 blade = -150

New WOT to be ~4900 which I do realize is slightly over the reccomended RPM. What have others found as I am sure with all the 3.0L in use someone must have tried this in a semi similar situation.

Also I have SX smart tabs to put on, do they effect RPM at all. I guess I should install them prior to buying a new prop but I will be in the states this weekend and well things are cheaper there and would like to get one this weekend.

Thanks,

Thanks, question really is I guess, Is 100-150 RPM over the proper range ok? Or is it a strict limit to adhere to?

Thanks,

Theoretically, just going to a 4blade prop 2" less in pitch like a 19" pitch will net you approx. the same 4450rpm, 1" less pitch would give you about 200rpm more, so I doubt you're going to reach 4900rpm, but that's my opinion.

If I was to go to a Mercury High 5, would most reccommend a 19" or could I get away with a 17"?

Thanks
