My starter over heated big time and I dont know why. My motor is a 92, I have the yellow wire from the solenoid to my starter and then the ground connected to a bolt that holds the starter to the motor should be grounded well. My starter went out, so I had it rebuilt. While reconnecting everything it looked fine, the motor wouldn't start.....I think my plugs are fouled or I am not getting any gas. I will start another thread for that issue though. Any after trying to start numerous times it finally wouldn't start. So I went back to check it over....and the starter was way hot. can someone tell me what I did wrong? I know I have fried my starter AGAIN, and the guy who rebuilt is going to love to see me and my wallet again tomorrow. Any ideas would help.

There are two connection points for power to your starter. One goes to the battery negative cable and helps to form the ground circuit for the boat. The other goes to the solenoid on the connector opposite the battery positive lead.

On the starter.... It is normally a 4 gauge yellow cable that is connected to the positive post on the starter. This post has a square base that you cannot see but when properly seated, it will stand straight up in the hole. The fiber washer is then installed and the stud is secured with the nut. To secure the power cable to the stud you place the cable on the stud and apply another nut to secure it.

If that's not the way you have it installed it is likely the source of your problem.
