I just purchased a used boat and motor. The engine is an 1973 Evinrude 85 HP. I heard it run before I purchased it and it sounded ok. I checked for oil leaks, water pump action, etc. and couldn't see any problems. The previous owner told me he used it for the last three seasons and did not have any problems. Now that I've got it home, I was cleaning the boat up and in the process, I lowered the motor. After a few minutes I noticed what looked like oil leaking from around the prop. I raised the engine back up and the leak stopped. The "oil" had the same look as brake fluid in a car.
Can anyone tell me if I have a problem or is this something that happens to this type and model engine?
Any answers will be appreciated.
