I have a mercury 115 1989 4 cylinder. It idols fine but when you give it full throttle it looses about 1500 rpms. the motor seems to bog down. It will not run at full speed. Is it the stator?? How do you find out if the stator is bad?

There is a full set of instrument tests in the Seloc Manual but they may not be conclusive. According to the manual, the presence of burn marks on the stator are reason enough to replace it. You need to pull the flywheel and remove the stator to do this check. I'm in the process of this same drill but don't have the manual with me right now or I'd give your the instrument tests also.
