I Bought a used 84 Evie last fall. It runs great except it dies at
fast speeds. I checked the VRO pump and it isn't working or very little.
Can I just add 50-50 oil to the tank and by pass the pump. Or do I have
to by the fricken pump?

If it is a vro pump then you need to know if the fuel side is working properly and if the oil side is functioning correctly. What makes you feel it is failing ??? If you squeeze the bulb when you are going at faster rpm does it keep going ??
You can change to a premix pump and mix the oil yourself for a lot less money than replacing with an oil mixing pump. The fuel side of your existing pump is rebuildable I believe however a nice new premix pump is what I chose last summer. Mix my own oil now and no issues to date.

After further review, I found the oil line broken. I replaced the oil line only to inadvertenly pull out the electrical connection. Now I am enjoying the hunt for the male end. I'm sure once I find it and get the scow back afloat it will run fine.

You may want to premix some fuel till you know that the oil side is functioning correctly.
