I need to replace the shift cable on my 200HP Evinrude. Should I stick with OEM cable or will 3rd party cables suffice?

I run strictly SW so a quality cable is a must. Any manufacturers cables better than another?

OMC likely buys their cables from teleflex. Standard teleflex cables last 20+ years in saltwater.

These are only 12 years old and have definitely seen better days. Been having issues with them hold adjustment for 2 years now. I effectively got 10 years of service out of them. Not bad really I guess.

It?s certainly not good when you?re trying to dock and your motor shuts off half the time while trying to maneuver.

Cut open a standard Teleflex cable and then an Evinrude cable and note the construction differences.

The Evinrude cable has a 3 year warranty on it.
