Re: anyone have a good running outboard?

My '98 Johnny V6 runs great. My '93 Merc V6 runs OK, mostly because I am not great at adjusting 6 idle mixture screws. It would run better if I could tune it better.

My 1980 Evin 115 runs like a top. Took a couple of years of fiddling to get that way but it starts right up, idles nice and goes when I want.

Re: anyone have a good running outboard?

nice motors guys!here,s my find from last year.1939 evinrude speeditwim that i paid 90 bucks for!draged it out of a pile of scrap iron and odds and ends!3 or 5 pulls later the beast started up .manual says 3/4 pint oil to 1 gallon.when motor is used for racing use 1 1/2 pints of high quality s.a.e. no. 60!ive been told by the guys at aomci that mine has a c service class racing speed lowerunit what ever that means.now after ive gone over her she,s a 1 or 2 puller.

By comparison, my 1985 140hp Johnson is almost new. It does however run great with the regular maintenance it should have.

Re: anyone have a good running outboard?

'84 Johnson 8hp clean enough to eat off the head..
Starts first pull every spring and purrs like a kitten all day long.
Will never part with her as she pampers my sorrow from my trade of my '93 Evinrude 30hp electric tiller that was also spankin new and always started first crank every time....Heck the skeg still had a full wearbar...

Maintenance and a love for your engines will keep them runnin like brand new longer then an average man...

Re: anyone have a good running outboard?

I have a 1957 evinrude big twin 35 h.p. that was given to me from a guy at work runs great and pushes my 15 foot deep v mirrocraft 29 mph. with my fat a@@, twelve gallons of fuel 2 batterys etc. Runs so well that I am activley
looking for a ten and eighteen of the same vintage, simple interchange of
motors on my boat for remote control connections. as soon as I find them my
1980 9.8 merc is going up for sale. For the prices around here that they are getting for used small motors made in the eightys and up ,I should be able to buy the 2 motors I want plus have money left to go to tune up parts.

Re: anyone have a good running outboard?

My 1971 9.5 Sportwin is the best running motor I've ever had. It's never needed anything but plugs and I throw a new impeller in there every couple of years. Fires right up, usually 1st pull and Purrs like a kitten.
