I have a '98 Force and I was running the boat the other day and all was normal and all of a sudden the tach was too high, but the motor is not running that high (normal at WOT is 4300-4400) this was 5000rpm. This happened a year or so after I got the boat new and I replaced the tach and ever since it has been fine. Can someone point the right direction before buying another tach as far as voltage measurements at the battery and the rectifier. I would like to rule those out first. thanks

Re: Tach. Readings

Battery charging voltage should run between 13.5 and 14.5 DC at the battery. The voltage on the stator side of the rectifier should be something like 18 volts AC.

Try cleaning the tack contacts as I have done that and mine came back to normal.
