Tachometer is behind the post pin - reversed?

I bought a new tachometer and put on my boat. 1986 DT115 Motor.

The tachometer worked fine for two outings...then wierded out...

I did not see it happen, but am assuming it went all the way around, then reversed polarity, because now the tach needle is sitting "underneath the stop post when the motor is not on" when you fire up the motor it goes forward till it hits the post.

Any idea what may have happened or how to fix it?

Are you positive your connections are correct? Gray-ignition, black-ground, yellow is the wire for your tach gauge.

yes everything is right. ... but as it sits uplugged or plugged in, the tach needle is on the bottom side of the pin.
