Default Evinrude 120 overheat on port side

I have a 1994 Evinrude E120TLERK that is overheating on the port side. At ¾ to full throttle, my temps were 150* on the starboard and 200* port. The port side would keep climbing until it over heated.
I was a long way from the ramp, so I pulled the vernatherm and all associated parts from both sides. This dropped my temps down to 100* strbd and 135* port.
Water temp about 75*

Everything was clean inside and I always had good flow thru the tell-tale.

I know I need to reinstall/replace the parts I removed, just wondering what all needs replacing.
I’m guessing, the two springs (per side) and the diaphragms.

I read about a thermostat upgrade/change over, but couldn’t find any details.

The pump parts have less than 20 hours on them and I had some overheat problems before changing them. I thought that the new pump kit would fix it, but it didn’t.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks.

you have a tstat for each side also, sounds like one has failed. while there change both.

I know how a thermostat works, but what exactly does a vernatherm do ?
